Heos soundbar 3

Denon Heos 5.1 with multi-room audio, NAS and CCTV

In this installation, the customer’s request was for a home theatre system downstairs, some audio out in swimming pool area, audio upstairs, a CCTV system, along with a NAS to distribute music and movies.

Heos multi-room was the choice for this installation. In the theatre room, a soundbar was used as the customer did not want at the front any floor standing speaker. Only half the room was renovated so the rear speakers are a pair of Heos 1 wirelessly connected to the soundbar to create a 5.1 system. In the cabinet houses a Heos Amp for the pair of black Niles speakers out in the swimming pool area, we wall mounted the TV and also installed all the data cables throughout.

Upstairs a Heos HomeCinema was used for streaming audio as well as for the TV, the TV is installed on a pivoting and the soundbar is mounted on the bracket as well.

The modem, NAS, and CCTV NVR are located in a cupboard. All TV’s and audio equipment’s internet access is all hard-wired back the cupboard, this means all TVs have assess to the NAS where movies and music are distributed.

Heos Sound Bar

Heos HomeCinema installation

Completed in Redhead, two TV’s wall mounted and two Heos HomeCinema sound bars installed. The main lounge room originally had a full 5.1 surround sound system and the customer wanted to downgrade the system to something more simple, hence the big gap in the cabinet, the TV height was at the customers request as he had concerns about the heat from the fire place. The customer found it really easy to use, changing channels and volume control from the sound bars is done off the TV remote control, when the customers wife is in the kitchen and the Heos sound bar is not loud enough to hear, she just jumps on the Heos app on the iPad and turn the volume up. Foxtel is also distributed around the house. Data cables also distributed around the house for improved internet performance on the TVs and sound bars.

Stealth Acoustics B30 Subwoofer

The B30 Spec Sheet is a two-panel monaural subwoofer speaB30 Subwooferker system that becomes completely invisible after installation. The subwoofer has a rigid frame that attaches directly to standard structural framing. The paintable active diaphragm face is bonded to the frame of the speaker panel, creating an active area surrounded by a stable mounting area. Installation instructions are shown on a paper overlay that is to be removed before installation. The overlay can also be used as a cutting template for retrofitting the speakers into existing wallboard.

The B30G may be installed in either the wall or ceiling and on-site finishing options include latex paint, light wallpaper, fabrics and selected texture coats. There is no need for special vellums or other nonstandard wallboard finishing materials. Advanced finishing methods may be supported using special techniques.

Ideal for any surround sound, foreground music or whole-house audio system that needs extra bass output, each B30G panel incorporates two acoustically coupled, high-quality, high-power 8 (203 mm) cone woofers. The panels work in pairs as a monaural output subwoofer. This two-panel system allows each panel to be placed wherever they perform best, free of visual concerns that may conflict with architectural features. B30G panels may be mounted separately or stacked to achieve desired acoustical results. For stereo subwoofers, four panels should be employed.

Using acoustic lever principals, the B30G provides exceptional bass output from 20Hz to 160Hz by trading off excursion for surface area to propagate bass waveforms. Each panel has 331 sq. in. (840 sq. cm) of active area for a total of 662 sq. in. (1680 sq. cm) for both panels nearly twice that of a typical 12 (304 mm) woofer.

Stealth Acoustics recommends the companion Model 255R 250-watt subwoofer amplifier/crossover as a matched amplifier for the B30G subwoofer speakers. Stealth Acoustics also offers a line of full-range speaker panels that when combined with the B30G, deliver a complete, totally invisible audio solution.

MK S150 MKII System

MK S150MKII System

The MK S150 MKII system employs MK SOUNDs breakthrough Phase-Focused crossover technology. MK S150 MKII SystemThe crossover is computer-designed for the ultimate in coherent response over a wide and controlled listening window (including in the vertical plane, which is critical when surround speakers are located above listeners heads). This unique crossover is critically tuned through both psychoacoustic analysis and complex computer time-domain analysis to achieve a uniform timbre balance throughout the listening room.

If you want your movies and music to sound they way they did when the producers and engineers were creating them, this is the speaker system to own. Front and rear satellites incorporate effective magnetic shielding with MK SOUNDs high-performance Ferromagnetic Shielding System. Magnetic shielding of the subwoofer bass drivers means that you can even place the subwoofer near the television or CPU for the ultimate in flexibility.

In 1991, MK SOUND became one of the first manufacturers to join George Lucas and his Lucasfilm Home THX program. The original THX program was created to ensure that movie theatres meet strict quality standards. The THX logo immediately became recognized as a seal of approval for quality-conscious cinema goers around the world. Today, THX Ultra is the highest, independent quality standard dedicated to the accurate reproduction of multichannel audio sources in the home. The MK SOUND 150 THX system meets or exceeds THX Ultra specifications to deliver music and movies with natural, effortless realism and power.

The 150 THX is the speaker system that made MK SOUND the choice of professionals. Not only is it the audiophile 5.1 channel standard, it is one of the most popular systems in multi-channel studios today.

This is the classic MK SOUND THX Ultra monitoring system found in hundreds of professional studios, including Skywalker Ranch, and thousands of home theatres. Its musical sound, wide dynamics, and excellent imaging make it the choice of professionals and enthusiasts for both movies and music. Despite the compact size of the satellites (less than a single cubic foot), the system produces amazing output levels with tremendous clarity and low distortion.

More about the S150 MkII LCR front speaker:

This is THE loudspeaker that helped shape Home Theater (and music recording) into what it is today the legendary and accredited S-150. For the first time since its introduction nearly 15 years ago, the S-150 has been updated in every aspect, from driver technologies to crossover design to cabinet tuning and construction. The result is the new S-150MKII THX Ultra2.
The razor-sharp imaging of the S-150MKII THX Ultra2 is due in part to innovative front-baffle foam treatments, cabinet design, and in great part to the Phase-Focused crossover.

The crossover combines three important design elements: Time Domain Analysis, Frequency Domain Analysis, and Point-in-Space Analysis (a three-dimensional analysis of the speakers actual response in the room). While other crossover designs consider just frequency response on one axis, MK Sound considers response at various angles in both the vertical and horizontal planes, optimizing the speakers three-dimensional response. This critically tuned crossover yields a very smooth and linear response over a wide listening window (very important for home theater) and assists in providing a more focused and coherent sound for the listener.
Three high-quality 1 polymer coated silk soft-dome, ferrofluid cooled dual-magnet tweeters are aligned in a vertical array, each utilizing a unique, specially designed polymeric-damped rear cavity to further enhance its superior sound. The S-150MKII THX Ultra2 dual high-performance 5 1/4 mineral-filled polypropylene cone, magnetically shielded, dual-magnet cast basket woofers produce powerful, richly detailed low frequencies. Based on MKs Professional Monitors and designed for music and theater systems in small to large size rooms, the S-150MKII delivers unparalleled transparency, accuracy, and dynamics while effortlessly handling voices, percussive effects, and musical instruments with life-like impact, and is timbre-matched to the MP-150 and S- 150T. Available in black satin finish with black cloth grille.

Acronyms, What do they mean? Part 2

ARC, AUDIO RETURN CABLE

ARC is a really handy feature, what this acronym means is returning audio in the opposite direction in regards to the direction of the video. Where this is used in a home theatre it is through a HDMI lead, one end is plugged into the output of a receiver and the other end of the cable is plugged into an input on the TV so you can watch your favourite movies, the input on the TV is important, there is only one port on the TV that will carry ARC the receiver is just as important as well, not all receivers are able to do the ACR function so you need to make sure they are both are ARC compatible. When ARC is action you will get audio from a normal TV channel through your home theatre system without a fibre optics lead, this function actually saves on using a one lead, but unfortunately a lot of retail outlet will still sell you a fibre optics lead even though you don’t need one, you need to watch out for this.

HDMI-CEC, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS CONNECTION

CEC is a useful feature; different manufactures will add their own little twist to this name but what CEC does is send remote control functions to other devices through the HDMI cable, so take for example if you bought a Samsung TV and Samsung home theatre system and if the CEC function is turned on you can pick up the TV remote control, change channels on the TV and as adjust the volume on the home theatre system with one remote control, all without doing any programming of the remote control. This function will work with other different manufactures but depending which ones you have, not all manufactures will communicate with each other’s brands. If you feel like this is an option you would really like to have, our advice is to stick with the same brand throughout your system, also you’ll have to make sure all the devices you are purchasing will do the CEC function

DLNA, DIGITAL LIVING NETWORK ALLIANCE

dlna logo

DLNA or dLNA as it’s known by is a protocol that streams data to your TV, PVR or home theatre system that is dNLA enabled. It’ll stream from anything like a NAS (network attached storage) drive or USB thumb drive, and soon from the internet. dLNA will work if you want to stream over a Wi-Fi but we don’t recommend it if you can run a data cable to the TV, the Wi-Fi in your house could slow down depending on what your doing at that time or even stop all together to give priority to the TV.

LFE, LOW FREQUENCY EFFECT

Low Frequency Effect, is used for subwoofers, the frequency range is 20 Hz to 120 Hz. This is your boom boom sound, a home theatre system without a subwoofer is not a sound system at all, a subwoofer can either improver or degrade a home theatre so just as speaker selections is important, so it a subwoofer to match.

DHCP, DYNAMIC HOST CONFIGURATION PROTOCOL

DHCP is used data networking, in a home environment this will including a computer or TV or gaming console, anything that uses the internet has a unique number to identify that unit so data can go to the correct unit, the router/modem will automatically give that unit a number.

HDCP, HIGH-BANDWIDTH DIGITAL CONTENT PROTECTION

HDCP in a home DHCP Logotheatre environment is a type of copy protection, one way to notice this is if you have a Foxtel box and a home theatre system connected, you will see a message from the Foxtel box say that it is waiting for a HDCP signal from the TV for a split second, Basically when transmitting digital signals between devices, this copyright protection technology encrypts the signals to prevent content from being copied without authorization, for example a recorder will not send a HDCP signal, so the recorder will not be able to record any picture untill the source can see a HDCP signal being received.
